Privacy policy
Short version: this site sets no cookies, runs no advertising trackers, uses no third-party analytics, and never sells anything about you. The longer version below says exactly what does happen.
Reading the site
Every page fires a first-party pageview counter built for this site, referred to in the code as the BR Pixel. It records, in a single daily total:
- the page path that was viewed;
- the hostname of the referring site, if you arrived from one — the hostname only, never the full URL;
- a two-letter country code.
Those three things are added to a running daily count and nothing else is kept. There is no cookie, no visitor ID, no IP address stored, no session, no profile, and no way to reconstruct one person's path through the site. It answers "how many people read this piece yesterday" and cannot answer anything more specific than that.
To opt out permanently on a device, visit any page with
?nopixel=1 appended to the URL. That stores a single flag in
your browser's local storage and no further pageviews are counted from that
browser. ?nopixel=0 reverses it.
The newsletter
If you submit the subscribe form, the email address you enter is stored so the newsletter can be sent to it. That is the only field collected. It is not sold, rented, shared or used for anything else, and every email includes an unsubscribe link. Ask at batsreactsbiz@gmail.com to be removed at any time and it will be done.
Comments
Comments are optional and require no account. What you type — the comment text and the display name, if you enter one — is stored so it can be shown on the article. Comments are moderated before appearing. You may leave the name blank and post anonymously. Email addresses are not requested or required.
To have a comment removed, email batsreactsbiz@gmail.com with the article and the comment.
Third parties
Being straight about the requests this site makes to other companies:
- Google Fonts. Typefaces load from Google's font servers, which means Google receives your IP address as part of that request. This is the one third-party request every page makes.
- YouTube embeds. Articles built on a video embed the player in
privacy-enhanced mode (
youtube-nocookie.com), which avoids YouTube's tracking cookies unless you press play. Pages with no video embed nothing. - Netlify. The site is hosted on Netlify, which keeps standard server logs as any web host does.
- No ad networks, no analytics vendors, no social pixels. There is no Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, no advertising SDK of any kind on this site.
Your data
Because the site holds no visitor profiles, there is generally nothing personal to request or delete beyond a newsletter subscription or a comment. For either, email batsreactsbiz@gmail.com and it will be removed. Requests are honoured regardless of where you live.
Children
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13, and no information is knowingly collected from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the change will be noted here with a date rather than made quietly.
