Editorial
Editorial standards
Bats Reacts is a one-person outlet. Julian Jons writes, edits and publishes everything here, and is accountable for all of it. This page states how that works, including the parts most sites leave unsaid.
Who publishes this
Bats Reacts is written and edited by Julian Jons, based in Greenville, South Carolina. There is no other staff. Every piece carries a byline and a publication date, and the editor is reachable at batsreactsbiz@gmail.com.
Verdicts and independence
Reviews are first-person: the verdict reflects having actually watched the thing. Scores are explained in the body of the review, and the scale is published on the ratings page.
No score is ever sold, traded or agreed in advance. No studio, distributor, publicist or advertiser sees a review before it publishes, and none has ever been given approval over one.
Reviews vs. reporting
Two different things happen on this site and they are kept separate on purpose. Reviews are first-person judgements of something watched in full; they carry a score and appear on the scoreboard. News and reactions report on what other outlets and the industry are saying; they never carry a score, because a score implies a verdict that was earned by watching.
This is enforced in the build, not by memory: a piece filed as a review without a score, or a non-review carrying one, fails the build.
Sourcing
Reporting is attributed. Where a piece relies on another outlet's work — a trade report, an interview, a review quoted for context — that outlet is named in the text. Quotes are reproduced as published and are not tidied up.
Aggregate scores and box-office figures are attributed to their source and carry the date observed, because both move.
Screeners, press access and gifts
Screeners, press screenings and review access are accepted. When a piece is based on one, a disclosure appears on that piece, naming who supplied the material — not buried on this page.
Access does not buy coverage and it does not buy a score. Payment in exchange for a review, a score, or favourable coverage is never accepted. Sponsored or paid placements, if they ever run, will be labelled as such and will never be a review.
AI assistance
Stated plainly, because it is better read here than asked about later: this site uses AI assistance in its production process, and every piece is reviewed by a human before it publishes.
- The takes are human. Opinions, verdicts and scores originate with Julian Jons — most begin as recorded video reactions and reviews before they are written up here.
- AI assists with drafting. Written pieces are drafted with AI assistance from those reactions and from named source reporting.
- Nothing publishes unreviewed. Every article is read and approved by Julian Jons before it goes live. Errors here are his, not a tool's.
- Artwork is illustrative. Cover images are original generated artwork, not photography, and are not presented as stills, production images or documentary record of anything.
Corrections
Errors get fixed in the open. When a published piece is materially corrected, the article carries a dated correction note saying what changed, and its last-updated date changes with it. Silent edits are not made to the substance of a published piece.
Typos and formatting are fixed without a note. Anything affecting a fact, a quote, a score or the meaning of a claim gets one.
To report an error, email batsreactsbiz@gmail.com with the article link and what is wrong. Corrections are made promptly once confirmed.
Comments
Comments are moderated before they appear. Disagreement is welcome and is the entire point; harassment, slurs and spam are removed.
